Girls' Night Out The YWCA will host teen Girl Scouts for an evening of fun, swimming, sports, movies, food and more! Activities in the heated indoor pool include free swim, synchronized swimming, water sports and games. The gymnasium and dance studio will be open all evening for both structured and free activities. Activity offerings may include volleyball, Zumba!, aerobics, self-defense, yoga, pilates and weightlifting. Please express your activity preferences when registering. Your Best Defense Give your body and brain a work-out at this exciting high energy event! Learn ways to keep you and your friends safe while learning basic self-defense techniques. You'll even get to test your new skills in a mock attack. Leave walking tall and proud! Gold 4B Challenge Step 4 of the Godl Award process is one of the most difficult, but often the most important step in a successful Gold Award project. Work as a group to complete this exciting step. Explore personal strengths and set goals for improvement. Look at your community's needs and learn to identify people in the community who share your concerns. Belly Dancing No reason to be self-conscious in this class, people of all shapes and sizes have been belly dancing for centuries! The emphasis is on self-expression and fun! Phoenix Avathar of Dancing Ember Studio will lead you through styles of Traditional and Tribal Fusion bellydance while teaching a little about its history. Art expression through dance is a wonderful way to discover individuality and promote creativity. They will learn how to express themselves through movement thereby encouraging self esteem. Learn basic cake decorating techniques like icing, piping and transferring a pattern. Bring an 8 or 9 inch round cake to decorate. Think you have what it takes to be prepared for a winter emergency? Come to Camp Bonnie Brae to learn what it takes to survive the winter chill. At this beginner/intermediate level event, you'll build a shelter, learn the basics of wilderness emergencies, cook in the snow, and even sleep outside, if you choose. Participants should come ready to spend most of the day outdoors. Girls have the choice to sleep in a heated cabin or try winter camping. Details:

National Girls and Women in Sports Day Clinic Try new activities; discover your interests; find your potential. The Springfield College Athletic Department is inviting Girl Scouts to fun-filled, energy-packed, sports clinics for softball, indoor rock climbing and volleyball. No previous experience necessary. Girls will have lunch with Spirit, the college mascot, and are welcome to stay and cheer on the Springfield athletes as they compete in basketball and/or swim competitions. Winter Camp If you like Winterfest, give Winter Camp a try! With snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snow sculptures, and nature hikes, Winter Camp will prove to be the best cure for cabin fever. Wistariahurst Museum - Textile Arts for Teens Wistariahurst Museum was home tos ilk manufacturer William Skinner. Come tour the home and explore textile arts and silk production. Girls will meet a local artisan and make their own crafts: creating a book of fabric samples, exploring hand embroidery, and completing a small quilting project such as a pillow or purse. Finally, there will be a discussion on how historians and preservationists approach textiles and the skills and education required to work in those fields. Program Aide Training Ready to take your leadership skills to the next level? Girls in grades 7 and up are eligible to become Girl Scout Program Aides (PAs). As a PA, you can work with groups of younger girls at camp, in the troop setting, or in a variety of program specific areas. As part of "core" training, you'll learn how to work with younger girls as well as how to lead activities with groups. We'll also discuss the many ways in which you can volunteer as a PA. Tennis for All Challenge yourself to learn a new skill. Girls will have a ball learning how to play tennis in an active, Girl Scout friendly environment. The staff at Ludlow Tennis Club will provide basic on-court instruction, designed to introduce this life-long sport to beginner players. Conflict Resolution IP Workshop You'll have lots of fun in this IP workshop learning effective ways to resolve conflict - personal, social or even global. We'll hear from professional mediator Katie Green and learn how we can handle conflicts before they get out of hand. You’ll do some fun role playing and interactive activities, and learn about body language and why active listening is such an important skill. We’ll even make some adorable sock puppets and you’ll learn how to use them with young children to teach them about conflict resolution and working things out. Interest Project patch is included. Rockin' Hockey Join the big time fun planned for Girl Scouts, their troops and families when the Springfield Falcons meet the Worcester Sharks. Girls are encouraged to make and bring banners saluting their facorite team. Girl Scouts will sing the National Anthem. There will be lots of rockin' fun before the game; participants have a chance to skate from 2-3 pm and enjoy special activities from 3-4 pm. Girl Sfouts will receive giveaway gifts. Make bottle cap jewelry; cool necklaces fashioned from cast-off bottle toppers. Put together a brooch with loads of buttons, leftover paper clips and tin foil. Build the perfect treasure chest or jewelry box from reusable shoe boxes and go to the hilt with descoration using collage, wallpaper remnants, old ribbons, stamps, and beads, or stencil the box with skull n' crossbones. Girl Scout Day at Old Sturbridge Village This event is designed for all Girl Scouts that are interested in learning more about early 19th century American history. Inspired by Women’s History Month, Girl Scout Day will explore the everyday lives of early New England girls and women through demonstrations and performances! Meet two very inspirational and dynamic women, Lydia Maria Child and Mary Gove. In their own ways, both motivated positive changes in American women’s lives. Admission includes most Village activities and an Old Sturbridge Village patch. Also pre-register online for the Museum Education Girl Scout Hands-on Studios for an additional $3.00 per girl. These 50-minute activities have been designed to meet Brownies Try-Its and Junior Girl Scout Badge requirements. Paper Works Have fun exploring the galleries of the Worcester Art Museum and making art in our studios while working towards your Paper Works Interest Project. Our custom-tailored workshops include a 30-minute guided tour followed by a 90-minute creative studio activity. Explore some of the many possibilities of working with paper, starting with simple papermaking to the construction of a book for journal entries or sketching. Hop on a Duck Tour and see Boston’s great history. After your tour, you will receive a D’Angelo’s boxed lunch at Boston’s newest attraction, TOMB. The scene... an incredibly realistic pharaoh’s tomb set in an archaeological dig site in ancient Egypt. The task... you and your group will work together to overcome each of the pharaoh’s challenges as you make your way through the burial chamber. The adventure is aided by special effects such as lasers, fog, water, air, lightening effects and booming stereo sound. Spend the day with a woman attorney who will brief you on the experience and skills needed for a career in law. Discover how lawyers use communication skills to resolve conflicts,; and then use those same skills in your life. Participants will have the opportunity to see how our judicial system works as they shadow their mentors working in the courtroom, conference room and office. The program will start at Elms College in Chicopee for a breakfast/orientation and end at Elms with an afternoon reception. During the day you will be traveling in the area with your lawyer mentor. Wistariahurst Museum - Victorian Era Day Discover what life was like in the last 1800's by exploring a Victorian mansion. Experience daily Victorian life in hands-on segments. A sampling of activities includes Victorian fashion and hairstyles, the language and decoration of fans, garden and outdoor games, letter writing and diary passages, Victorian etiquette and entertainment, calling cards, and Victorian crafts. Girl Scouts will be divided into small groups to travel through the museum.
